Guru

I found this lovely poem when I was in my classroom with my fantastic students in my new school..

Reading this poem, I feel more energetic and confidence. However after a while, I feel that that the burden that is given to me is very heavy (I mean it). Teacher’s job is not just merely teaching but it goes beyond that. Maybe, after you recite this poem you’ll know what I really try to convey.. huhuhu..

Guru

Guru adalah…
Pendandan iman,
penjana taqwa Penggubah hemah,
penjalin disiplin Penyumbi budi,
perapi pekerti Pembancuh roh,
pemateri peribadi Pengukir daya fakir,
penyolek intelek Pencanai perangai,
pemintal amal Penyala daya cipta,
perona rupaPengolah tingkah,
penggembur tasawwur Pemahat semangat,
penala daya usaha Pencanting daya saing,
pemilin yakin Pelentur tutur,
pengarca bahasa Pengandam azam,
pembaja cita-cita Penggilap sikap,
penyusun santun Pemahat minat,
pengilat bakat Pensasa raga,
pencerna persona…

Guru adalah muaddib bijaksana
Tekun sabar mengadun tamaddun
Bagai lilin memperkasakan watak
Guru adalah murabbi cendekiawan
Gigih adalah meramu ilmu
Bagai obor mengupayakan minda
Guru adalah mufakkir istimewa
Giat rajin membaji jatidiri
Bagai lampu menjelitakan wibawa
Guru adalah mursyid pendeta
Jujur ikhlas mewarna budaya
Bagai lentera memperkayakan etika
Guru adalah mujahhid peka
Iltizam istiqomah melepa jiwa
Bagai bara mewajakan maruah
Guru adalah mu’alim mempersona
Budiman ihsan mengukir wawasan
Bagai unggun menceriakan impian…

This poem is specially dedicated to my guru,

Ayah Su (Mohd Nasir B. Hassan) and Cikgu Yie (Muzairi Souza bin Mohamad)

Thank you for everything,
Only God can repay what you have given..

Karya Arwah Guru Anuar Wahab

Ilmu hanya sebiji bacang, selebar upih
hendak memberi tidak berupaya,
kerana terlalu miskin,

adat bergayung bersambut, adat kata bersahut,
jika hutang dibayar yang dipinjam dipulangkan,
dariNya kita datang kepadaNya sekalian kembali,
atas syariat Rasullulah,
InsyaAllah.

Meeting the Master V

Less than two weeks after the course with Pak Ngah Izahar, I had an opportunity to visit another important person in Gayong, which is Cikgu Amin Hamzah. I was told by my younger brother that Cikgu Amin happened to come to his school for a belt awarding ceremony for the Maahad Tahfiz Sains students. The organiser took the opportunity to conduct a short course for the higher grades students. With the help of my brother, I was able to join the course. Thanks to the organiser for allowing me to join the course (although I am just an outsider)  Huhuhu.. There were also students from UTP and Ipoh came to the course.

Cikgu Amin with his right men. From the left Cikgu Azizan, Cikgu Amin and Cikgu Wan Abd Halim.

That was the first time I saw Cikgu Amin by my own eyes. I have heard a lot about him from my friends, especially bro Hafiz (stoke) and bro Hakim (france). I arrived a bit late to the course. That had given a negative impression about me. In addition to that, I have also made a few technical mistakes which for me is fine but not to the Cikgu Amin and the organiser. Luckily, nothing bad happened. In the training session, Cikgu Amin was very serious and liked to use high tone voice to teach. That’s the first impression that I had on him. huhuhu

However, after being there for quite some time and consulting him in person, I believe that he is a true master who tried his best to protect what was passed down to him and the survival of gayong. In my point of view, CIkgu Amin is a very obedient student of the late Super Grand Master Dato Meor Abdul Rahman and the late Cikgu Ahmad Lazim. He follows almost everything that he saw and was done to him.

In the course that we had, he asked for some food and drinks exactly the same as the late Super Grand Master did when the set of syllabus was passed down to the students. He talked about the ‘adat’ and rituals that the late Super Grand Master did. He regards the late Dato’ Meor even higher than his late father. He always became very gloomy when he talked about the late Super Grand Master.

The participants.

Alhamdulillah, God has opened another gate for me to explore and see his richness. Hopefully the link that I have developed with Cikgu Amin, his right men (Cikgu Wan Abd Halim and Cikgu Azizan), and anak2 gayong Tanah Merah, Machang, UTP and Ipoh can help me widen my view on silat especially in Gayong. There are still a looot more to learn.. huhu..

Meeting The Master IV

He is not an ordinary master to me. In fact, he is one of the masters to my grandmasters (cikgu Muzairi and Ayah Su). I am really fascinated not only to his knowledge and skills in martial art but also his attitude and personality which resemble the true colour on how a guru (in my point of view) should act.

Pak Ngah Izahar showing some moves..

Last semester break, the Gayong Bachok team had organised a short course to enhance students’ skills in using the keris. For this purpose, we have invited the teaching team from Batu Kurau to enlighten us with the required knowledge and skills in this particular area. Alhamdulillah, we have learned something new and at the same time able to meet the old friends as well as the new ones.

The team involved in the course.

Back to the Master, He is known as Pak Ngah Izahar Batu Kurau. Not many people know who he really is as he always stays out from publicity and the ‘red carpet’. People only know his name and even if they meet him, they would just assume that he is no one, just a village guy. That is what makes him special.

Pak Ngah is among the few people who can still teach the ‘original’ gayong stuff. He is the second generation in Gayong students (along with Cikgu Majid, CIkgu Awang Daud and etc), learning with the Super-Grand Master Dato’ Meor Rahman. He has gone through a lot with Dato’ Meor before he become who he is today.

The training those days.. Acted by the Batu Kurau team.. huhuhu

Training silat today is nothing compared to the training that he had those days.. Imagine, a couple of hours used just  for warming up.. For the silat practice, they would repeat the same movement again and again for weeks, before they move on to the next move. That is the reason they can use the movement in real.

Hopefully, we can take the opportunity available to learn as much as we can from him as he is among the few pearls still exist in Gayong..

Merantau.. Coming soon

You will just suffer by just watching the trailer as it will only be launched on August (which is still months to go). Arghh.. Although it seems to be just another OngBak-like film, I believe it will portray a strong silat identity in the fight.. Hopefully people will see silat with both eyes open widely instead of just hearing it from others.

The main actor, Iko Uwais, with his silat harimau really rocks.. huhuhu..

There is no flowery movement and slow paced stuff. Everything goes sharp and fast.. Arghh..

Scary

Viewer discretion is advised..

This is what happen when you take moving pictures with a phone camera.. huhuhu.. You can’t even take a picture with a slight shake. Don’t even think about panning and all.. huhuhu

Aku mahukan DSLR, badly! (Ashraflatif 2009). In the picture, Arif did not stay still even once when I wanted to capture his expression.

p/s: Take wudhu’ or at the very least wash your toes when you go to bed.. Not because of ghost but for cleanliness. And hopefully you’ll get something pleasent when you sleep.. huhuhu

Bahasa jiwa bangsa

Pandang-pandang Jeling-jeling,
SM Salim dan Siti Nurhaliza.

Cincin intan bunga selasih,
Mari dipakai di waktu petang,
Kenapa tuan tak mahu berkasih,
Adakah orang akan melarang.

Kain sarong kain terendak,
Memanglah manis kalau dipakai,
Kalau takut dilambung ombak,
Jangan berumah di tepi pantai.

Tuai padi musim dah tiba,
Mari menuai di waktu pagi,
Kalau begini malang menimpa,
Biar kuturut kata hati.

Bunga selasih permainan budak,
Daun sehelai dimakan kuda,
Bercerai kasih bertalak tidak,
Seribu tahun bertemu juga.

Kereta kuda pedati lembu,
Singgah mari di tepi kuala,
Tuan sutera, saya belacu,
Manakan sama berganding sama.

Burung jelatik sarang kedidi,
Sarang tempua, sarang berjuntai,
Sungguhpun cantik sutera diuji,
Belacu juga tahan dipakai.

Return of Jiji

It been so long since the last time I update this green blog. Maybe I am not born writer. It takes me so long to think of something to write, at the end I will just say for the heaven sake, forget it. The next day it will be the same, for heaven sake just forget it. But when you get involved with something, you must commit to it. Responsibility people call it. Every night I sleep with guilty feeling because I abandon this blog. Abandon is too harsh maybe. Didn’t write something is what I mean.

Maybe this time I will just write about Jiji’s visit to Germany. All of you maybe know that my younger brother, Faiz visited me two times during his time in UK. I never visit him once. What kind of brother am I? You judge. Now to make thing even worse, my younger sister from USA came to visit me. I am a man who stuck in his own prison. Germany is my prison. Lately I have no apatite to travel outside Germany, outside Lübeck to be exact. 2 days in Berlin already made me feel so homesick. To stay here with you know what condition make me happy. It is a funny or a sad thing to think about. But it is what it is. Thanks to my entire sibling because still care enough to visit me although I seem not able to do the same.

That morning, I went to Hamburg to pick up Jiji. 45 minutes Train ride was not so long compare to her. She took a bus from Frankfurt to Hamburg. 7-8 hours I guess. I arrived in Hamburg ZOB early. The bus was still not there. I sat there and enjoyed my cup of Jo. It was a little bit cold but still lovely. Maybe the fact that I will meet my sister made the morning lovely. At the end the bus arrived, 15 minutes late. My heart pumped fast because I have not seen her for a long time, 3-4 years I guess. The last time I saw her, she was still in High school in Kota Bharu. Now she is final year student at her University. So what do you expect? Is she taller than me? Is she has a tall nose now? I don’t know. The entire stupid question played in my mind. At the end, came a lady with hijab from the bus.  Heh, Jiji is the same Jiji when I left her long time ago.

That is all for today. Maybe this story will continue or maybe not. Hahhahahaha.
