To do list

I am going back to my hometown any moment from now. There are many things that I intend to do insyaallah this break.

Many of us (my family & and relatives) who are either working or studying outside of the state will be home as well. That means more gathering and more eating. huhuhu.

Last break, we have created one record, eating eel for quite a number of kgs. huhuhu

Mokcik, with her skills..

Usually, we only had the eel, for a few kgs, that’s all. But the latest was enormous. Instead of eating rice with eel, we had our eel with rice instead. It was had to believe that we managed to finish them in one glance. alhamdulillah..

Don’t be deceived by the plates.. That was just the starter.. huhuhu

There will also be a Gayong short course for the seniors on this 1st & 2nd June. Hopefully everything will run smoothly, Insyallah. To anak Gayong Bachok who are interested to join us, please feel free to do so. Thanks..

CADES COVE – Divers recovered the body of a 20-year-old student from Penn State around 1:30 p.m. today at Abrams Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a park spokesman said.

Spokesman Bob Miller said Nublan Zaki Norhadi was pulled from about 30 feet of water by divers from the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.

The drowning was reported around 7 p.m. Sunday, two rangers remained at the scene overnight, and divers from the Blount County Sheriff’s Office resumed the search this morning, with visibility limited to about four feet, a park service staffer said.

The pool at the base of the falls is about 75 feet wide, 100 feet long and 25 feet deep, Miller said.

He said it’s unclear whether Norhadi went swimming in the pool or whether he slipped or was swept off a ledge.

Miller said Norhadi was among about 30 students from Penn State visiting the park, although it wasn’t an official university trip. He said they are “pretty much all foreign nationals” and that Norhadi was to have flown home to Malaysia next week.

He said the area is marked with hazardous warning signs.

The great thing about this year’s Champions League Final is that it forces people across the world (not just Europe) to take sides, albeit against their will. Lots of people in Spain dislike Barcelona (and most of them wear white replica shirts) and plenty of English folk have issues with Manchester United’s puffed-up pre-eminence, but if you exclude these national factors, there are no similarly identifiable groups around the globe who have anything against Barcelona or Manchester United.

And although Real Madrid might want to argue the case, the marketing statistics would seem to favour this year’s two finalists as the major movers of replica kits on the third planet from the sun. Wherever you may roam, the post-modern travelling experience almost guarantees a spotting of the red shirt or the scarlet and blue, whether you do the urban thing or the rural retreat. The two teams have become strangely universal, with their colours instantly recognisable from Doha to Dakar.

It’s one of the reasons why this year’s final is such an attractive prospect, with apologies to certain districts of London. The interesting thing is that your choice of either Man Utd or Barca to win on Wednesday marks you out, and places you in a certain category. It’s a lifestyle choice, so be careful.

I’ve been out in Doha, Qatar since January and it’s getting hot. Apart from the obvious, and the fact that it’s interesting to be living (temporarily) in the only country in the world that is not in recession, football does not pass the folks by in this small sandy country. 80 per cent of the population is expatriate, which makes it a strange sort of melting-pot, but already the urban dwellers are starting to make their preferences clear.

The Asians in my ‘hood seem to have a preference for Utd, whilst the assorted Brits out here are almost universally pro-Barça. I’m not sure why the large Indian population here should be so pro-Man Utd, but my research has hardly been scientific. I may be wrong. The Brits are rather easier to read, and during the semi-final screening in a large hotel here, the hostility towards Chelsea was palpable, save for a few hardy souls sitting quietly in the corners in their blue shirts. The few Qataris who braved the throng were also pro-Barça.

What is it about Barcelona that drives so many people to feel that they wish to be seen as identifying with them?

The clue to the puzzle originates in Spain itself. Barcelona is never seen as an entity in itself, but rather as the antithesis of Madrid. Barcelona is loved whereas Madrid is merely admired. Where Madrid’s famous Parque del Retiro has an organised, more symmetrical beauty, Barcelona’s Parque Güell is all exuberance and wild ambition. The contrast is a significant one. Europeans specifically, and now the world in general, seem to associate Barcelona with some kind of romanticism, some spirit of liberalism expressed in both its art and its politics. So when its football club enjoys one of its dream-team phases, everything seems to be right in the world somehow.

How can one explain this allure – all the more curious for being so unique? There are plenty of other ‘romantic’ clubs around the globe – Manchester United among them – and yet none has achieved the scale of Barcelona’s popularity – expressed as a sort of neutral sympathy. To identify with Barcelona, however distantly, however mistakenly, is to proclaim oneself a liberal romantic, an aesthete of football.

It hasn’t taken Barça long to recover the spirit that Ronaldinho had rekindled so recently. The two-year interregnum that then saw them concede the throne to Real Madrid has been snatched back in convincing style. It’s difficult to dislike this side, so typical of the traditions that have infused Barça’s philosophy over the years, a kind of happy mixture of anarchy, work and beauty. And whereas it would be simplifying matters to draw parallels between Pep Guardiola and Johan Cruyff as managers, it may be true – at least as far as Wednesday is concerned, that Guardiola would concur with the Dutchman’s famous outburst after his Dream Team side lost 5-4 to Atlético Madrid in 1994 (after leading 4-1) that he would prefer to lose in style than draw 0-0.

Guardiola is a touch more pragmatic than this, but there is no way that Manchester United’s reputation will worry him into changing the team’s basic approach on Wednesday. The fact that Rafa Marquez and Eric Abidal will be missing from defence is probably less significant than the absence of Dani Alves, nominally a full-back but in truth a major spoke in the team’s attacking wheel.

Barça had issues at the back before Marquez and Abidal withdrew, and United will have always fancied their chances from set-pieces and corners, but the absence of Alves means that the four-pronged attacking combinations involving Xavi, Iniesta and Messi will have lost 25 per cent of their potency.

Alves is also a key figure in the Catalans’ pressing game, where the opposing midfield is harried and hurried into giving the ball away. Xavi and company do not tend to give the ball away very much (‘Xavi gave it way once in 2006’ quipped Guardiola recently) but without Alves they might not manage to get it back quite so easily – and may not dominate possession to the degree that they enjoyed against Chelsea in both semi-final legs.

Why do people wish to be associated with Manchester United? Good question. As a kid, I wanted the romance of the Best, Law, Charlton era to rub off on me and give me some of its shine. There is an element of romance in the very phrase ‘Manchester United’, and all that some of its post-war teams have come to represent, but the international popularity of United has nothing to do with the city that the team hails from, or any resounding philosophy that the team or certain individuals may have come to express over the years.

I think that it’s become a power thing, an association with alpha ambition, where all else are deemed unworthy of serious attention. Real Madrid, in their more powerful moments, express a similarly brutal winners-take-all sort of attitude that you are invited to either take or leave. Outside of the church of Manchester United, you kind of hate Sir Alex Ferguson, but you would die to have him as manager of your club.

All week I’ve heard people asking each other which team they are intending to support on Wednesday night. The question has rarely met with a neutral shrug. People feel obliged to make a choice, and though the reasons may be admittedly more complex than those outlined here, a choice will be made. Between power and romance? Whatever, it can hardly fail to be a classic.

United will surely not be persuaded to adopt Chelsea’s catenaccio approach, and will attempt to play their normal high-tempo possession game. Since Barça will do the same, despite a weakened defence, a 0-0 draw looks somewhat unlikely. As Paul Gascoigne once said, ”I never make predictions and I never will”, so I think that Man Utd will win it. Barça have been wonderful up to now, but have simply not come up against a side of United’s potency. It might depend on which side can panic the other first, and then take sufficient advantage, but the English club’s greater defensive assurance suggests they should win it, so long as they don’t have one of their off-days.

I’ll be watching the game in the hallowed surroundings of Doha Rugby Club, where fish and chips will allegedly be on the menu. Ah, some corner of a foreign field! The outside temperatures are touching 47 degrees now, and the mercury only drops a little after dark, so it promises to be a sweaty occasion. It’s been nice to return to the equally hallowed pages of Soccernet, and so thanks to Iniesta for giving me the excuse to return to the rusty keyboards.

As the final seconds ticked away at Stamford Bridge, my thoughts turned to John Terry, and how he would be practising penalties in his garden for the subsequent weeks. It was not to be, and now he sits around a pool somewhere sticking pins into a doll called Tom. The only compensation, I guess, is that we are about to see a much better final. Games like this only come along once in a while.

Linking theory to the practice

Last week, we had a sparring session at the end of our usual silat training, . As I am not the instructor of the gelanggang, I have little opportunity to expose the trainers on the need to practise sparring. Because of the limited of the time, we just follow what are being taught to us by our instructors.. However that week,  I had the opportunity to train with the novice group, thus, able to open their eyes on how ‘fun’ it could be to fight others.

One of the aims involving in martial art is to be able to fight. In order to do so, the trainers need to be able to transfer the knowledge that they have (the syllabus) to the real life situation. They can do all the techniques learned if their partners were just following what they intend to do. What if they resist (do not give cooperation)?  That is the real world. We can’t ask other to punch and just wait for us to lock them or even catch their hand. That will never happen on the street… Whoever fast, clever, strong, cunning and etc wins. huhuhu

tapak yoi vs tendangan angin puyuh.. huhuhu (file gayong ipba 2005).

Firstly, getting trainers to get the idea of how it feels to attack and to be attacked is important. Then only trainers can easily understand how they can apply their theoretical knowledge into the practical part. Besides that, trainers also need to figure out on some tips and techniques that is not mentioned in the book. The instructor has two choices in regards to this aspect, whether to tell the tips to the students or only create the opportunity for them to develop their own principles. The later is I think better but do they have sufficient time to develop the tips with a very limited training time? behaviourist vs constructivist? huhuhu..

I think almost everyone has got some ‘present’ at the end of the session. The present can be in term of bruises, cut, trauma, skills, knowledge etc.. The size and impact of the ‘present’ depends on the effort that they put in their fight. Hopefully the ‘present’ can teach them something.. huhuhu… On the other hand, my buddy and I also had some time experimenting things.. Both got some presents.. There are still a lot that need to be learned, especially to link the theory to the practice.. huhuhu..

So much for my happy ending

Midwest Games has finally been called off. Anyhow, be safe everyone!

Review: The Evil Cult (1993)

I watched a film entitled ‘the evil cult’ just now. It is a typical early 90′ kungfu film which has a lot of martial art actions. In this post, I just want to stress on the end part of the movie where the hero (Jet Li) has thrown away all of the stances and moves that he has learned in order to keep his promise to his rival, not to fight them using the stances  he knows. Therefore, he has learned a new, completely different stance from his grandmaster on the spot, which he was not able to learn before, because of his injury.

He has to master the new stance on the spot in order to defeat two powerful opponents who is giving pressure by attacking him from all sides. These are some of the principles and theories that his grandmaster mentioned, while showing the stance to him.

grows from nothing.
It’s the origin of motion.
The origin of everything.
Positive and negative is connected.
Can’t be separated.
2 elements help each other.
They are against each other.

Keep calm.
Mind your respiration.
Concentrate your mind.
Pay full attention.
Turn soft to hard.
Use both soft and hard.

In Tai-chi,
there is soft and hard.
Use both soft and hard.
Generate the forces as you wish.

just remember it’s meaning,
not the stance.
Forget all your stance.
Thus you can make it.

And.. I assume you should know how it ended.. huhuhu.. However, it can only happen in film.. Rarely happen in the reality.. huhuhu

Animals in the Al-Quran

There are 16 animals, 2 birds and 10 insects that are mentioned in the Al-Quran (please correct me if I am wrong):

1. Camel

Lo! they who deny Our revelations and scorn them, for them the gates of heaven will nor be opened not will they enter the Garden until the camel goeth through the needle’s eye. Thus do We requite the guilty.

Al-A’raaf (40)

And horses and mules and asses (hath He created) that ye may ride them, and for ornament. And He createth that which ye know not.

Al-Nahl (8)

3. Ass

The likeness of those who are entrusted with the Law of Moses, yet apply it not, is as the likeness of the ass carrying books. Wretched is the likeness of folk who deny the revelations of Allah. And Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

Al-Jumu’ah (5)

And horses and mules and asses (hath He created) that ye may ride them, and for ornament. And He createth that which ye know not.

Al-Nahl (8)

Be modest in thy bearing and subdue thy voice. Lo! the harshest of all voices is the voice of the ass.

Luqman (19)

4. Calf

And Our messengers came unto Abraham with good news. They said: Peace! He answered: Peace! and delayed not to bring a roasted calf.

Hud (69)

And when We did appoint for Moses forty nights (of solitude), and then ye chose the calf, when he had gone from you, and were wrong-doers.

And when Moses said unto his people: Lo! Allah commandeth you that ye sacrifice a cow, they said: Dost thou make game of us? He answered: Allah forbid that I should be among the foolish!

Unto those who are Jews We forbade every animal with claws. And of the oxen and the sheep forbade We unto them the fat thereof save that upon the backs or the entrails, or that which is mixed with the bone. That we awarded them for their rebellion. And lo! we verily are truthful.

Al-An’aam (146)

6. Horse

Beautified for mankind is love of the joys (that come) from women and offspring; and stored-up heaps of gold and silver, and horses branded (with their mark), and cattle and land. That is comfort of the life of the world. Allah! With Him is a more excellent abode.

A-li ‘Imraan (14)

7. Swine

He hath forbidden you only carrion, and blood, and swine flesh, and that which hath been immolated to (the name of) any other than Allah. But he who is driven by necessity, neither craving nor transgressing, it is no sin for him. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Sesungguhnya Allah Maha Pengampun, lagi Maha Mengasihani.

Al- Baqarah (173)

Say: I find not in that which is revealed unto me aught prohibited to an eater that he eat thereof, except it be carrion, or blood poured forth, or swineflesh – for that verily is foul – or the abomination which was immolated to the name of other than Allah. But whoso is compelled (thereto), neither craving nor transgressing, (for him) lo! thy Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.

Al-An’aam (145)

Eight pairs: Of the sheep twain, and of the goats twain. Say: Hath He forbidden the two males or the two females, or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Expound to me (the case) with knowledge, if ye are truthful.

Al-An’aam (143)

9. Goat

Eight pairs: Of the sheep twain, and of the goats twain. Say: Hath He forbidden the two males or the two females, or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Expound to me (the case) with knowledge, if ye are truthful.

Al-An’aam (143)

10. Elephant

Hast thou not observed how thy Lord dealt with the owners of the Elephant?

Al-Fiil (1)

11. Wolf

He said: Lo! in truth it saddens me that ye should take him with you, and I fear lest the wolf devour him while ye are heedless of him. They said: If the wolf should devour him when we are (so strong) a band, then surely we should have already perished.

Yusuf (13-14)

Saying: O our father! We went racing one with another, and left Joseph by our things, and the wolf devoured him, and thou believest not our saying even when we speak the truth.

Mereka berkata: “Wahai ayah kami!

Yusuf (17)

12. Ape

And ye know of those of you who broke the Sabbath, how We said unto them: Be ye apes, despised and hated!

Shall I tell thee of a worse (case) than theirs for retribution with Allah? Worse (is the case of him) whom Allah hath cursed, him on whom His wrath hath fallen ! Worese is he of whose sort Allah hath turned some to apes and swine, and who serveth idols. Such are in worse plight and further astray from the plain road.

Al-Maaidah (60)

13. Lion

Fleeing from a lion!

Melarikan diri (ketakutan) dari singa!

Al-Muddaththir (51)

14. Dog

And had We willed We could have raised him by their means, but he clung to the earth and followed his own lust. Therefor his likeness is as the likeness of a dog: if thou attackest him he panteth with his tongue out, and if thou leavest him he panteth with his tongue out. Such is the likeness of the people who deny Our revelations. Narrate unto them the history (of the men of old), that haply they may take thought.

Al-A’raaf 176)

15. Serpent

Then he flung down his staff and lo! it was a serpent manifest;

Nabi Musa pun mencampakkan tongkatnya, maka tiba-tiba tongkatnya itu menjadi seekor ular yang jelas nyata.

Al-A’raaf (107)

Then he flung down his staff and it became a serpent manifest,

Nabi Musa pun mencampakkan tongkatnya, maka tiba-tiba tongkatnya itu menjadi seekor ular yang jelas nyata.

Asy-Syu’araa’ (32)

So We sent against them the flood and the locusts and the vermin and the frogs and the blood – a succession of clear signs. But they were arrogant and became a guilty folk.

Al-A’raaf (133)

So We sent against them the flood and the locusts and the vermin and the frogs and the blood – a succession of clear signs. But they were arrogant and became a guilty folk.

Al-A’raaf (133)

18. Locust

So We sent against them the flood and the locusts and the vermin and the frogs and the blood – a succession of clear signs. But they were arrogant and became a guilty folk.

Al-A’raaf (133)

Lo! Allah disdaineth not to coin the similitude even of a gnat or anything above that. Those who believe know that it is the truth from their Lord; but those who disbelieve say: What doth Allah wish (to teach) by such a similitude? He misleadeth many thereby, and He guideth many thereby; and He misleadeth thereby only miscreants;

Sesungguhnya Allah tidak malu membuat perbandingan apa sahaja, (seperti) nyamuk hingga ke suatu yang lebih daripadanya (kerana perbuatan itu ada hikmatnya), iaitu kalau orang-orang yang beriman maka mereka akan mengetahui bahawa perbandingan itu benar dari Tuhan mereka; dan kalau orang-orang kafir pula maka mereka akan berkata: “Apakah maksud Allah membuat perbandingan dengan ini?” (Jawabnya): Tuhan akan menjadikan banyak orang sesat dengan sebab perbandingan itu, dan akan menjadikan banyak orang mendapat petunjuk dengan sebabnya; dan Tuhan tidak akan menjadikan sesat dengan sebab perbandingan itu melainkan orang-orang yang fasik;

Al- Baqarah (26)

O mankind! A similitude is coined, so pay ye heed to it: Lo! those on whom ye call beside Allah will never create a fly though they combine together for the purpose. And if the fly took something from them, they could not rescue it from it. So weak are (both) the seeker and the sought!

Al-Hajj (73)

21. Ant

Till, when they reached the Valley of the Ants, an ant exclaimed: O ants! Enter your dwellings lest Solomon and his armies crush you, unperceiving.

An-Naml (18)

22. Spider

The likeness of those who choose other patrons than Allah is as the likeness of the spider when she taketh unto herself a house, and lo! the frailest of all houses is the spider’s house, if they but knew.

A day wherein mankind will be as thickly-scattered moths

Al-Qaari’ah (4)

24. Bee

And thy Lord inspired the bee, saying: Choose thou habitations in the hills and in the trees and in that which they thatch;

Al-Nahl (68)

25. Hoope

And he sought among the birds and said: How is it that I see not the hoopoe, or is he among the absent?

An-Naml (20)

And We caused the white cloud to overshadow you and sent down on you the manna and the quails, (saying): Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you – they wronged Us not, but they did wrong themselves.

27. Raven

Then Allah sent a raven scratching up the ground, to show him how to hide his brother’s naked corpse. He said: Woe unto me! Am I not able to be as this raven and so hide my brother’s naked corpse? And he became repentant.

Kemudian Allah hantarkan seekor burung gagak (menyuruhnya) mengorek-ngorek di bumi supaya, diperlihatkan kepada (Qabil) bagaimana cara menimbus mayat saudaranya. (Qabil) berkata: “Wahai celakanya aku!

Al-Maaidah (31)

28. Fish (Whale)

And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy;

As-Saaffaat (142)

But wait thou for thy Lord’s decree, and be not like him of the fish, who cried out in despair.

Cerita Tenggiling (Pangolin)

I met one last week, at my home. I believe it enters the compound after Subuh as we usually keep the gates closed at night. Maybe it lost the way to find her home. huhuhu.. There are many pangolin holes (or maybe iguana)  around the place we live, maybe because the place has plenty of food and convenient place to stay.

She tried to run away from me, not wanting her picture to be taken.. huhu

However, the last time I saw pangolins in the area was years back. It was a pair of them, hanging on branches of a rambutan tree. However, those pair were not as huge as the one that I just recently saw. I believe it felt  full and ready to find her bed, but couldn’t find it. Or maybe she was pregnant, and nearly due. She wanted to find a safe place to give her birth. How do I know it was a female? It was just my assumption. huhuhu

I was in rush, as I need to send my mom to her work before the road get crowded. I was not able to give much attention to that poor pangolin. I called Abah to give a hand on how we should handle her, maybe capture her to make our pet, along with the two arowanas. Then, we can call Majalah 3 to publish our story… huhuhu.. Then I left the pangolin to Abah and went to send Maa. By the time I went back home. The mission has already accomplished. Abah has  safely escorted the mammal out of the house compound. huhuhu

Wrong technique.. Only the back can touch the ground, not the head.. huhu

In Silat Gayong, there is a movement that is called Tenggiling (Pangolin). Same like other animals movement, it also has its own strength. It is a technique where one can prevent injury when falling down. It is the basic techniques that practitioners need to master as this will allow them to become competent in others higher technique as well. This is because practices in Gayong requires a lot of falling and small part of acrobatics movements (which i’m not good at T-T).

Forward roll- Tenggiling.. Taken from hafiz’s

Maybe the name of the movement is given based on pangolin’s nature which require practitioners to have a tough, round back when they do the rolling, same like the pangolin. This movement will protect the practioners’ week point especially the head. When ones have sufficient training, they will not have any problem, rolling on the hard surface or in the real situation. i.e in an accident. For higher level, ones will just do the somersault on air, which is more practical and less dirty, but hard to master. huhuhu

Happy (belated) Mother’s Day

I went to my uncle’s house one fine afternoon and saw my cousins were doing some art work. I thought that they were finishing their homework, as the table was full with accessories and books. Only my uncle was around as my aunt went out with my parents.

I was amazed with their attitude when they told me that they work collaboratively in order to design a Mother’s day card for their mom, and it was not their homework. They divided the card equally as each of them got one part of the the card that need be filled.

From left clock wise, Syuhada, Izzah, Izuldin and Najihah

The eldest, Izuldin acted as the leader of the project and everyone seemed to be cooperating pretty well. Even the little Syuhada contributed by scratching some unknown pictures on the card. Najihah, a Standard One daughter, tried her best to write a letter to her mom. The second child in the family, named Izzah also helping to design the cover page of the wish card. She also asked her siblings’ opinion on the content that she can put for her part in the card.

A standard one’s draft, before it gone through the revise, editing and publishing process.

When I was a small kid, I was less exposed with the special dates such as this mother’s day date and etc. Maybe I was too busy with my core business, which is playing and didn’t bother much about stuff like aprilfool valentine day and stuff. As much I can recall, I only knew the existence of valentine day when I was in secondary school; not because I own a girl, but because of the awareness campaign that my teachers and seniors did. Dates were only seen as in two terms, school day or holiday. I always missed my birthdays, not to mention others’ birthday. huhuhu

Back to the topic, on the next day, Haziq went back home with his supposed-to-be-just-outing holiday. Maybe he was witty in making excuses to his warden. It was a mother’s day after all. Maybe he told his warden that he wanted to have his time with family on that day. huhuhu.. My mum cooked special dish on that day. Enough to make us concentrate enjoying our lunch. Thank you for the marvelous cuisine.. huhuhu

From left clock wise direction, jering muda, ikan selar kuning goreng, ikan puyu goreng, budu, lawa ikan, gulai ketam.. Thanks maa for the special dishes.. huhuhu

If sarawakian have umei, japanese have sushi, kelantanese have lawa (only small part of Kelantan and Besut especially places near to coast). huhuhu..

Happy Mother’s Day to Maa, Kak Atie, my cousins, friends, and all mothers out there. The hand who ‘menghayun buaian’ can shake the world.

Remembering Names

When I went back to my hometown last week, I had the opportunity to visit my friend teaching his students at Sek Men Puteri Saadong.

Cikgu Mie is demonstrating a deadly technique to his apprentices, Asas Tangkis..

There are a lot of thing that I have learned from him. One of them is to know each and every students in your gelanggang. He is really good at remembering their names, even for a few guys who has just started the Silat class on that day. huhuhu

To my friends, forgive me if I am not able to remember your name yet especially for those from ipba’s gelanggang. Please give some time for me to remember all of your names.  I admit that I am not really good at remembering names. huhuhu..

Say (unto mankind): Cry unto Allah, or cry unto the Beneficent, unto whichsoever ye cry (it is the same). His are the most beautiful names. And thou (Muhammad), be not loud-voiced in thy worship nor yet silent therein, but follow a way between. (Al-Isra’ 110)

(QS. Al-Isra‘ : 110).

I have received a very interesting comment from a reader about my post ‘My Toys‘.

belatianakrimau said (May 11, 2009 at 2:32 am)

Kalau nak belajar main keris kena belajar dari bawah, tangan kosong baru naik kesenjata tak bole belajar senjata saja nanti bila senjata tiada ditangan tak tau nak beladiri sendiri nanti mati. Kalau nak belajar sila la ke Petaling Jaya dekat digital mall Seksyen 14, sebelah Bakers Cottage , Jak Othman marital arts studio, PENCAK SENI SILAT HARIMAU BERANTAI, permainan tangan kosong, seni belati, keris, kerambit, tekpi, sundang jawa dll. Sila lihat youtube seni belati itu la guru saya Jak Othman( pengarah siri dokumentari MAHAGURU ).

My response to this comment:

  1. Keris can stand on its own, with the right techniques and concentration. From the science aspect, the way a keris is designed enables it to stand with the help of the sheath or not, on its tip or hilt, as long as the person knows how to do it. It can fly as well, if God permits so. It may has genie or something but they don’t have anything (power etc.), except with the will of the God.
  2. Talking about syrik, one needs to be extra careful.. If you believe that you can do this and that without relying on the God, you have already in a big trouble. Even food or medicine can make you become syirik. They don’t have any power, except with the will of God. The same goes to keris.
  3. I do agree with you that a beginner needs some foundation before they move on playing with weapons. However, we can’t definitely say that a person cannot learn playing with weapons before they learn to fight barehanded. Some school of martial arts teach their students using the weapon first. Once they have matured in the techniques learned or with the philosophy of their schools, they can do anything even without using any weapon except for avoiding death. We can’t stop the death because it was written even before we were born. They have their own way to fight even without using any weapon. We can’t judge them if know nothing about them. Respecting others is one of the important part of martial art.
  4. I know the place but haven’t gone to give a visit to the gym yet. I was told that Guru Jak Othman was once study the same discipline as I do now, Silat Gayong Malaysia/Pusaka/Warisan. Of couse his level is lot higher than mine, as he is from the earlier generation of the Gayong practitioner. huhuhu..
  5. If your intention is to advertise the school, thank you. I would prefer learning something pure, where I know where is the origin of the silat (sanad) that I learn. Although some may say that it is traditional, or something. I have my reasons for that.

Wallahu’alam.. Please correct me if I am wrong..

Nothing to be ashamed of though, maybe it will be a good exercise for us.

Hafzan Lazim.

summer kicking off

Seperti berumur 40 tahun. Tapi everything’s fine after 16 hours of sleep (erk!). I officially moved out from Suite 1704 yesterday(sila baca dgn nada sedih) and now staying in Kissam Quad for one week or so before the real summer housing assignment. Thanks to those who help out – Fish, Anep, Sabi, Ba’e, Jue, Hilmi, “Ibu”, Izzati, Min and kanak2 freshman =). Terima kasih tahap dewa laa. Without your help mungkin saya rasa macam 60 tahun hari ni. haha.

Now I’m looking forward to: May7 – Farewell Party. May8 – Commencement.  May8-10,15-17  – AlMaghrib. May 22-24 – Midwest Games. May28 – FLIGHT to Frankfurt yay! (Harap2 encik2 babi dah sembuh selesemanya hish)

Relaxing summer? def NOT!

“Whosoever relieves from a believer some grief pertaining to this world, Allah will relieve from him some grief pertaining to the Hereafter. Whosoever alleviates the difficulties of a needy person who cannot pay his debt, Allah will alleviate his difficulties in both this world and the Hereafter. Whosoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the Hereafter. Allah will aid a servant (of His) so long as the servant aids his brother. Whosoever follows a path to seek knowledge therein, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise. No people gather together in one of the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves, except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy covers them, the angels surround them, and Allah makes mention of them amongst those who are in His presence. Whosoever is slowed down by his deeds will not be hastened forward by his lineage.”  [Muslim]

Hail the second.

Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while you shouldn’t have messed with? Well, that is me, Hail Ariff. I have a small ears. You know what that mean?  Go ask my Tok Bah. He will say directly I am a brave person. He is very proud of me. He will say I don’t cry like other kids. That is true. You don’t believe me? I even chase my older brother away if he tease or annoy me. I am still crawling. You can imagine when I start walking, I will even chase my uncle if they bother me. I just don’t smile in my pictures. Don’t take it personal, it just strictly business. And again my name is Hail Ariff, feared by men and highly desired by the ladies.
