After waiting and searching patiently for the right person, at last I have found a teacher which I believe can pour some of his skills and knowledge to me. Credit to Cikgu Zamri for helping me meeting him. As, his gelanggangs are located mainly in Gelang Patah, we have to take about an hour journey to get there. He is Cikgu Johari Bin Shuhadak, one of the main Silat Pusaka Gayong teachers in Johor. With a small figure (as fit as Pak Andak Majid), and a clear voice, he is surely someone who I should not mess with.
His students come from various category; primary and secondary school students, and adult.
Learning silat not only in Gayong, he is indeed an open teacher. He is the one who really like to share rather than to teach others and always willing to learn from others. According to him, he has been teaching silat for the past 15 years and he learns a lot from his experience as well. In Gayong, his teacher is Cikgu Mat Rasip, the PSSPGM boss in Selangor. He learned from Cikgu Mat Rasip when Cikgu Mat Rasip was posted to Air Tawar, Kota Tinggi (as a teacher). Cikgu Mat Rasip only left Kota Tinggi when he has establish a firm Gayong Foundation there. One of his firm pillar is Cikgu Johari and Cikgu Zamri who are continuing his legacy of spreading the Gayong wings in Johor.
As an introduction to many more meetings in the future (insyaallah), we just had a light training where he showed a few basics that all of silat gayong trainers always do but rarely appreciate the moves. After he shared his thought with us, I could see that these movements are really fabulous tricks, which are applicable and practical to the real life combat. I am really looking forward to the next meeting. huhuhu
