Merdeka joy in Brickendonbury

LONDON: More than 5,000 Malaysians descended on the English countryside for a day of fun, food and games at the Merdeka Carnival 2007.

Amid the rustic charm of rural villages, many mak ciks and pak ciks were seen catching up on old times while sitting on bamboo mats and enjoying Malaysian delicacies.

The sprawling ground of the Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre in Brickendonbury, Hertford, provided an ideal setting for the Malaysian community to rekindle friendships in a distant land.

The daylong event on Saturday was all the more significant as it coincided with Malaysia’s 50th National Day and Visit Malaysia 2007.

……..bla bla bla………bla bla bla…….. bla bla bla……..bla bla bla……..

Great joy: Punch & Judy puppeteer Des Turner with Mr Punch and five young Malaysians with painted faces (from left) Hafiz, Rina, Shida, Naqueebreza Rezuan and Izzat Daniel waving the Jalur Gemilang at the carnival.

More than 30 stalls offered a variety of mouth-watering Malaysian favourites including Penang laksa, rojak, satay, nasi lemak, otak-otak, roti canai, tosai, pasembur, rice dumpings and even moon cakes.

The children also had a great time being entertained by 74-year-old puppeteer Des Turner with his Punch & Judy show as well as having their faces painted in various designs.

The other attractions included a lion dance, cooking demonstrations, a display of Proton cars, martial arts display and various games and sports.

The phrase written in red in the news indicates that I am also included in the new. I am really proud to be Malaysian. huhuhu.

That was my first silat demonstration in UK and it has already being posted in the news. I am a bit flatted. huhuhu.

From right Bro Hafiz, Me and Bro Tariq, listening to Pak Muhammad an Indonesian Silat Master and a traditional doctor. I met quite a number of people during the festival. And of course I grabbed the opportunity to learn new things from them.

I haven’t had the training for quite some time. Therefore my performance was a bit messy. huhuhu

However, I am quite sad, looking at others performing silat to Malaysians. Where are the other Malaysians? It is our inheritance. We should be ashamed of them. They are doing dakwah by using Silat. What about us? There were only two Malaysians including me, doing the silat demonstration.

On that day, there was a girl, Reka revert to Islam, just by looking at the beauty of pesilats’ character. She has been following Pak Muhammad for couples of month watching Pak Muahammad healing others and practising silat. She chose that day to become one of the family members in islam. May Allah SWT bless her and all of us.

not trying to trigger your vitious ambition, but the fact that silat is no longer fame among malays is because malays are not longer as fierce as it was…Takkan melayu hilang di dunia, it’s true that malays will not vanish from this world, but the adat and resam will vanish… ajak bersilat bulan pose pun ramai letih… tak gitu cikgu faiz…
